Read on for more information about Nancy MacMorris-Adix.

What is your position responsible for?

"As a member of the board, I am elected to represent the public. I take that very seriously in protecting tax payers' money, making sure community opinions are heard and ensuring that every child in the district has the opportunity to excel academically."

What are your goals in regard to student achievement?

"It is easy to say that all students should be working at grade level or better and that every child should be learning every day. It is harder to measure that progress. I hope to focus attention on students and their learning, how they understand their strengths and weaknesses, and how to help them move forward from where they are. This summer at Summer Academy, I spoke with students who told me exactly what they were working to accomplish. With clear expectations, strong teaching strategies and a rigorous curriculum, students will be successful."

What do you like to hear from staff and the community?

"Because it is the school board's role to set policy for the district, I am very interested in hearing from constituents about policy issues. Do the current policies reflect the values of the community? How can we strengthen the policies?

I am also interested in questions about how the school district functions and how the school board sets policy. Thoughtful questions about policy will help the board make clear decisions, and will in turn enable the community to trust the decisions the board will make."

What else do you want people to know?

"I believe all segments of our community benefit from strong schools that focus on education. My hope is that the Salem-Keizer area will be recognized statewide for exceptional schools and excellent community support. "
