Helen Ketteman talks with students at Harritt Elementary School

Children's author Helen Ketteman talks with students at Harritt Elementary School on October 28, 2009 about writing books and the writing process.

Helen Ketteman, picture-book author, visited several Salem-Keizer elementary schools during the last week of October. At Harritt Elementary School, she shared her books, experiences, and tips on writing with hundreds of students.

"Everybody has stories in them, and everyone can tell them well," said Ketteman after reading one of her books to a group of students. "Your imagination is like anything else; the more you use it, the better you get at it."

The children's author projected images from her books on a large screen while she read her books. She also shared writing examples of her work, complete with revision notes.

"You can do anything you set your mind to," said Ketteman. "Just work hard and don't give up!"
