Salem-Keizer, a leader in business practices? Absolutely!

Salem Keizer Public Schools has been certified to ISO 9001

Salem-Keizer is now internationally recognized for the quality of our support side of the district.

At last night’s school board meeting, the district was awarded an international stamp of excellence for our business operations. After an extensive audit by the International Organization for Standardization (recognized by the business world as a leader in quality assurance), our district’s support departments met all the qualifications to get certified for excellence in business practices. We’re now one of only a handful of districts across the nation that has this certification.

Superintendent Sandy Husk expressed her appreciation of the hard work done by staff, “We have a great school district thanks to our outstanding staff members and their commitment to quality work every day for our students. They exemplify quality assurance.”

It’s all about quality

For the last three years, Salem-Keizer’s support staff has been cleaning house – examining how we do things in this district. Key support service functions were looked at, checked over and if possible, made more efficient. Everything was examined, from our hiring process to how we schedule buses for field trips. We now have a strong infrastructure in place that promotes continuous improvement and empowers employees to problem solve.

“The amount of work that our staff has done to make quality assurance an everyday reality is amazing," said Husk. "This international recognition of excellence could not happen without their dedicated work, and I know that dedication comes from a deep-felt mission to help every child succeed.”

Let us focus on our primary mission

Why all the fuss about quality assurance? It frees up our instructional staff so they can focus on teaching, mentoring and guiding students. We want all our business and support side of the district to run smoothly, efficiently and in the best interest of our students and staff so that our attention goes toward what really matters – educating the students of this community.
