South Salem High School Custodian Mark Starns is the January 2009 recipient of the Golden Broom Award. Mark earned the recognition because while working out of class as the interim Lead Custodian at South High, he met every request with a positive attitude. Also, a peer transitioning into a leadership position can be trying; however he did so with ease and respectfulness to his peers. He made the transition go smoothly while providing outstanding service to the staff and students at South High School.
