We'd like to nominate the Paint Department for the Going the Distance Award. Kudos to our Salem-Keizer painters for painting the hallways, doors, locker rooms, and the main gym at Judson Middle School. Their efforts and fresh paint have made this 50-year-old building more aesthetically pleasing and vibrant for our students and staff. Thank you for a job well done.

I would like to nominate the payroll staff for the Going the Distance award.
Over the past several months, I have watched our payroll staff continually "go the distance" in working through the challenges of the MUNIS implementation to ensure that all of us are paid correctly and on time. However, I was especially proud of them during the recent snow and ice storm. Regardless of the weather, payroll staff worked whatever hours it took, even when the rest of the district was closed, to ensure that final payroll was run. I feel that they didn't just "go the distance"...they surpassed it!

Waldo Middle School
I would like to nominate the Waldo Cafeteria Staff for Going the Distance.
As a critical component of Waldo's restructuring plan, we have created a Homework Lunch setting. This setting pulls in all students who fall behind with any of their missing work. This program has resulted in Waldo decreasing student failure by an amazing 73 percent.
To do this, we have students served their lunches in the Homework Lunch locations. This means that every day the kitchen staff has to be provided a number for how many sack lunches they need to generate for that day, as well as tracking each individual who is in Homework Lunch. On some days, we have as many as 285 students assigned to Homework Lunch. There is no way that we could have been making this impact on our student learning without the support of the Waldo cafeteria staff. Their willingness to work with us every day on the needs of these individual students is making a significant difference in the lives of these children.
The staff at Waldo feels blessed to have such a caring cafeteria crew that recognizes their role in student achievement. They are without a doubt going the distance to provide what children and staff need to be successful. We could not be doing this without them.
