Margaret Combs going the distance

Margaret Combs, affectionately known as Miss Maggie, has been an invaluable addition to our staff at Four Corners Elementary School. She has an amazingly positive attitude. In addition to adding humor and laughter to our building climate, she has provided staff development opportunities for all of us. We've learned much more about language development in children and about Story Grammar Marker. What an SLP she is! She provides consistent speech services to all of her students - often above and beyond the minimum requirements. Her students enjoy her so much. She has a wealth of ideas to support students in classrooms. She has even stayed late to help a colleague who was ill by walking her to her car and even offering her a place to stay for the night.

If amazing work, total dedication, and quality in the classroom are criteria for Going the Distance, then the entire classified team in the South High Life Skills classroom is worthy each and every month of this award. This dedicated team of permanent district employees consisting of Shelley Wickersham, Cathey Heenan, Cindy Mestrezat, Robert Shuey, and Dan Hoffman have set the bar for classroom excellence so high that their work and commitment to student achievement is recognized throughout the building and district as well. Their total dedication to student success and complete devotion to preparing students to meet the challenges of life are thorough and uncompromising. Then, on top of everything just mentioned, they make each day at school a unique experience that is both fun and informative from start to finish. I can think of no finer group of educational professionals to be recognized for Going the Distance than the classified team at South High Life Skills.

Carol Roberts

Administrative Assistant 2
Curriculum, Instruction & Assessment

Carol is truly amazing! If there is ever an issue, she always has an answer. If you need something, she's got it. If she doesn't, she knows where to find it. Ever ask Carol, "Remember when? or who? or where? or that time?” She does! She remembers this district's history like no other. She has definitely been our go-to person and mentor since coming to 24J. She saves us time and is always willing to jump in and help no matter what the situation is. She is a true jewel in Salem Keizer's crown and we have really appreciated all her help and hard work. We don't know what we would do without her. Thanks Carol, for all you do!

Cindy Jennings
Administrative Assistant 2
Risk Management

 cindy jennings the distance

It is my pleasure to nominate Cindy Jennings for the Going the Distance award. Cindy is Administrative Assistant 2 in the Risk Management office.

About a year ago the idea was suggested that we change the way that on-the-job injuries were reported to Risk Management. Once a plan was established, Cindy worked hard to develop the new procedures, new forms and a new job injury poster. She was also instrumental in communicating these new procedures to administrators and office managers. Even with these new procedures, Cindy is still responsible for entering the information into our claims database and providing vital information to our third party administrator so they can properly process each claim.

In addition to her duties with the reporting of job injuries, Cindy must perform all of her other duties as the Administrative Assistant for Risk Management. All of us here in Risk Management appreciate her hard work and dedication to our mission in Risk Management.

Congratulations to the Going the Distance winners. The Lifeskills staff at SSHS is a talented group and that most definently includes their teacher Steve Osbourne too. Carol is a talented professional and efficiently serves her staff. Margaret Combs is one of our many talented Speech and Language Pathologists. Way to go! Thanks to Cindy at Risk Management too. Great group to honor this month :-)
