District's new professional development center opens

Rachael Harms, classified professional development coordinator, welcomes visitors to the Professional Development Center open house on December 1, 2009.
The district's new Lancaster Professional Development Center is now open and ready to use. The building is at 421 Lancaster Drive NE, Salem, OR 97301 located behind IHOP in the old Circuit City/Sears Auto Building.
"This fills a big need in finding space for training," said Mary Cadez, executive director of Human Resources.
You may sign up to use this space with Leslie Gagosian at 3061. There are two rooms, Room 1 seats up to 40 and room 2 seats up to 150. Each room is equipped with a document camera, LCD projector and overhead projector. There is a small kitchenette and adequate restrooms.
"I am grateful to the board for allocating money to make this space a reality and to our facilities and maintenance department for their work in creating the space," said Mike Miller, director of professional development. "It will provide needed space for training during the school day, as well as in the summer, evenings, etc. Currently the only space for this type of training is support services. It will also provide a meeting space large enough to accommodate all of our leadership team in one space."
Ample parking is available in front of the training center, to the south side, on Monroe street, or behind the building. Please avoid parking in the spaces in front of any other businesses.
