Student Transfers
In-District Transfers
Parents who live within the Salem-Keizer School District have the option of transferring their children to another school within the district if there is room at the transferring school.
- To start the process, parents must fill out an In-District Transfer Form.
- The completed form is returned to their resident school.
- Once the resident school receives the form, it forwards it to the requested school who forwards it to the office of Secondary Education.
- Once the process is started, it usually takes about a week to complete.
- Parents are sent a copy of the transfer form for their records once it has been processed.
Please note: Transportation is not provided for students who are on an in-district transfer.
Inter-District Transfers (Non-resident)
Parents who either live in Salem-Keizer and want their child attending another school district or parents who live in another school district and want their child attending schools in Salem-Keizer must go through the inter-district transfer process.
Request to Attend School Outside the Salem-Keizer District- Secure and complete non-resident transfer request form from the Resident District.
- Complete a request form for each child.
- Gather documentation:
- Proof of Residence (copy of utility bill or drivers license)
- Child's report card or transcripts
- Copy of IEP if child is Special Ed
- Submit completed form and documentation to Secondary Education.

- Agree to provide transportation.
Request to Attend School in Salem-Keizer
- Once a transfer request is received from another school district, a copy is made and sent along with an approval/denial form to the school requested.
- The school will make a decision and return the form.
- If the school denies the request, the parents will be sent a letter of denial from the office of Secondary Education.
- If the request is approved, then the appropriate paperwork will be initiated and sent to the resident school district.
- When the paperwork is approved, signed and returned, then a letter is sent to the parents notifying them that their student has been approved to attend school in Salem-Keizer.
