Swegle students learn about police work

On June 8, Swegle Elementary School had a visit from deputy Shawn Bush, his K-9 partner Max, and deputy Ethan Griffith from Marion County Sheriff's Office.

They came to the morning kindergarten classroom as a reward for a fundraiser the students had earlier in the year. They were a great reward for the students since several want to be "cops" when they grow up.

It was also a great opportunity for students to learn all about the positive things law enforcement officers do in our community. These deputies did an amazing job of relating to and teaching the class. They talked about safety as well as what it takes to be a deputy. They emphasized the importance of staying in school, being fit and healthy, and making good choices in life. Max (K-9) also demonstrated his awesome skills, and each student got to look inside their police vehicle.

It was a positive experience for students. Thank you to the deputies who took the time to visit the school. The Sheriff's car drives by Swegle school regularly at the kid's dismissal time. It was great to hear a student say, "there's the guys that came to see us!" a few days after their visit.
