Salem-Keizer has 28 schools listed as receiving Title I funds. These are federal dollars that fund programs that assist disadvantaged youth.
Students in Poverty
More than half of Salem-Keizer's student population is considered living in poverty based on the number who are receiving the Federal Free and Reduced Meal Program. A student may qualify for the program if his/her family income is below a certain federal level. For a family of four, the household income must be below $2,389 per month to qualify for the free-meal program, and under $3,400 for the reduced-meal program. Or, a student may qualify if his/her family is receiving Food Stamps, Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF), or benefits from the Food Distribution Program on Indian Reservations (FDPIR.

Our Staff
Salem-Keizer Public Schools is one of the largest employers in the Salem/Keizer area with nearly 5,000 full-time equivalent (FTE) employees. The following information is for the 2009-10 school year.
- Licensed Staff: 2,468 (teachers and counselors)
- Classified Staff: 2,360 (instructional assistants, custodians, bus drivers, clerical staff)
- School-Based Supervisors: 108 (principals, assistant principals, athletic directors)
- Districtwide Supervisors: 47 (superintendent, Executive Cabinet, curriculum coordinators, superviros for Transportation, Custodial, Maintenance, Human Resources, Fiscal, Payroll, Technology, etc.)
- Our two largest employee groups (licensed and classified) are represented by employee unions who negotiate salaries, benefits, and other contract items on their behalf.
