The SKACE (Salem-Keizer Association of Classified Employees) Budget Crisis Team and district representatives met on May 6, 2009 to discuss possible solutions to the district budget shortfall for the 2009-11 biennium. Before entering discussions, all participants received training in interest based problem solving. Using this process, the participants listed their issues, interests, concerns and brainstormed potential resolutions.

While listing issues it became apparent that the participants shared similar core values and mutual interests. Most importantly that decisions will be guided by a desire to have the least negative impact on students and staff while meeting the goal of resolving the current budget shortfall.

SKACE and the district will continue to meet on this important topic. Updates on their progress will be provided following each meeting.
