The superintendent and her executive cabinet are pleased to recognize the following individuals for their outstanding work and contributions to our school district and community.

Business Partner of the Month – Food 4 Less

Food 4 Less

Ken Kline and Food 4 Less have been a business partner to Middle Grove and Lake Labish elementary schools for several years.

They have generously donated items for parent meetings at nearly every event. In fact, they have donated so much for the parent meetings that they have covered the needs for the whole year.

Food 4 Less has donated school supplies, treats for students on a monthly basis to encourage student achievement and has even donated a percentage of sales from special events held at the store.

Food 4 Less has been a very generous organization, focusing on our students' success and parental involvement.

Thank you, Ken.

February 18 is Statewide Exclusion Day in Oregon. Salem-Keizer School District 24J is required by state law to keep a record of each student's immunizations. Parents who are enrolling a student in school must complete a Certificate of Immunization Status form with their child's record of immunizations.

Students who are not in compliance will be excluded on February 18, 2009.

In order to help spread the word of the importance of having students immunized; the Marion County Health Department sponsored an Immunization Poster contest.

Two Salem-Keizer students won first prize in their category for their design.

We would like to honor first prize winners, Yamillets Aguilar, a 7th grade student from Grant  Community School,  with her poster designed in Spanish, and Jessica Corona, a 7th grade student from Parrish Middle School for her poster designed in English.

Congratulations on your award winning designs.

Lorri Lane received her certification for English/Language Arts for ages 11–15.

The National Board for Professional Teaching Standards serves to improve teaching and student learning. National Board Certified Teachers are highly accomplished educators who meet high and rigorous standards.

Like board-certified doctors and accountants, teachers who achieve National Board Certification have met rigorous standards through intensive study, expert evaluation, self-assessment and peer review. NBPTS offers 25 certificates that cover a variety of subject areas and student developmental levels.

According to our Human Resources Department, we have approximately 2,400 teachers in the Salem-Keizer School District. Of those, only 72 licensed staff have advanced certifications. Less than five of our teachers have earned the National Board Certification.

Congratulations.
