Safety Town
For Children ages four through kindergarten

Safety Town is an eight-day program covering the major areas of early safety education. It features a miniature town, complete with streets, intersections, crosswalks and buildings. Part of each day is spent walking on sidewalks and "driving" on the streets of Safety Town. Under the guidance of early childhood teachers assisted by youth volunteers and safety experts, children will learn to recognize and respond appropriately to many of the common hazards and potentially dangerous situations in their lives.

- Classes are filled on a first come basis, per post mark date.
- Mail in registrations may include no more than four registrations per envelope.
- Mail in registration form should indicate program of choice and two alternates.
- Full payment must be included with registration.
- Make checks payable to Salem-Keizer Safety Town.
- Registration will continue until programs are full or one week before the start of class, whichever comes first.
- A ten dollar processing fee will be charged for any refund requested before the start of the class. No refunds will be given after the start of class.
- A limited number of partial scholarships are available for families who qualify. Scholarships are available on a first come basis.
A confirmation letter will be sent prior to the start of the program you have chosen. If you are on a waiting list, we will notify you only if an opening occurs.
Cautious Kids
For children entering First Grade and Second Grade
Cost: $55

Children will learn pedestrian, personal, animal and water safety skills. They will also learn and practice bicycle safety skills. Cautious Kids offers hands-on, age-appropriate activities taught by experienced instructors assisted by youth volunteers and safety experts. Graduation will feature a safety skills demonstration. Cautious Kids is co-sponsored with Salem Hospital. To participate, children will need to bring a bicycle and helmet and know how to ride. Training wheels are acceptable.

Teen leaders are needed to help teach and model safety skills to children age four and those entering kindergarten attending Safety Town. Safety Town is a comprehensive home, traffic and personal safety program, sponsored by Salem-Keizer School District for young children, featuring a miniature town. Volunteer leaders for Safety Town commit to one training session and the entire eight-day program of choice.
CAUTIOUS KIDS
Teen leaders are needed to help teach and model safety skills to children entering grades 1 & 2 attending Cautious Kids. Cautious Kids is a safety program, co-sponsored by Salem Hospital and Salem-Keizer Schools. The program is designed to help children learn about personal, bicycle, water, animal and pedestrian safety. Volunteers leaders for Cautious Kids commit to one training session and the entire 5-day program of choice.
- Teen volunteers must have a completed and approved background check
