Join a District Committee
The district has many community committees and programs that need dedicated participants, such as yourself. These include:
- Equity Advisory Committee
This committee gives district staff, students, parents and community members an opportunity to address their concerns about equity in all facets of Salem-Keizer operations. They review all types of issues related to age, disability, national origin, race, color, marital status, religion, gender, sexual orientation or financial ability.
- Budget Committee
The committee is an advisory group established by statute. It conducts public meetings to hear the budget message and reviews the budget proposed by the superintendent. One of its most important purposes is to listen to comments and questions from interested citizens. The committee considers this input as it deliberates on the budget. The committee can revise the proposed budget to reflect changes it wants to make in the district’s fiscal policy. When the committee is satisfied, it recommends a budget to the School Board for approval. The School Board must approve a budget by June 30 of each year.
- Special Education Advisory Council
The mission of this council is to enhance, promote and improve special education programs and services; including communication, collaboration and resources; to better serve students and families within the Salem-Keizer community.
