Equity Advisory Committee
The Salem-Keizer Public Schools Equity Advisory Committee is committed to providing a discrimination-free environment in an equitable manner in the programs, practices and policies carried out by and within the school district so that all who work and learn in our schools will attain their highest potential.
The Equity Advisory Committee gives District staff, students, parents and community members an opportunity to address their concerns about equity in all facets of Salem-Keizer operations. Listed below are some examples of the types of issues related to age, disability, national origin, race, color, marital status, religion, gender, sexual orientation or financial ability the committee might review:
- Curriculum
- multicultural education opportunities
- textbooks and materials
- music and arts programsÂ
- Student Services
- equitable enforcement of discipline, alcohol and other drug policies
- counseling services
- Employment
- equity in workplace staffing
- identify patterns of possible inequitable workplace practice
Members are appointed by the Superintendent or her designee and serve two-year terms. The committee consists of seven citizens and four District employees and may also include two students. The meetings are open to the public.
