District Response to Influenza

Submitted by Simona Boucek on May 1, 2009 - 10:49am

District Response to Influenza

We are taking our direction from the Oregon Public Health Division and county health department because they establish the protocols for dealing with all communicable diseases.

They have asked us to urge people to use "universal precautions"--wash hands frequently, cover your cough, stay home if you are sick, etc...

If a child at school has repiratory symptoms and a fever or suspected fever, their parents should take them to the doctor. Our district will consult with the family, the doctor and the health department to see if a communicable disease is suspected.

If a case is suspected or confirmed, the Oregon Public Health Division and county health department will give us directions.

Please refer flu-related questions to the County Health Department.

Salem-Keizer bus drivers will compete in the regional School Bus Safety Exercise this Saturday (May 2)

Go cheer them on and check out their exceptional skills behind the wheel.

The event is at Keizer Volcanoes Stadium from 10 a.m. till 4 p.m. Public is welcomed to attend. Winners from the state events in each category may proceed to the National School Transportation Association School Bus Driver International Safety Competition being held in Greensboro, NC in July.

Financial resources to pay for these events are generated by a combination of private fund raisers and OPTA funds.

This is a great chance to see your school bus drivers from around the region demonstrate their professionalism and skills in driving the buses that bring our children to school each day.

Tags: budget, community, e-update, event, news & updates

Our community is invited to a special budget forum to receive information and provide input on possible funding shortfalls in our district ranging from $30 to $50 million over the next two years. This is a significant reduction in our funding.

Here is the schedule:

7 p.m., WEDNESDAY, APRIL 29, 2009

at McKay, McNary, North Salem high schools

Or...

7 p.m., THURSDAY, April 30, 2009

at South Salem, Sprague, West Salem high schools

Pick the school closest to you to hear the presentation and share input with us.

We strongly encourage our community to attend and hear the presentation - especially to give input. It's so we can all have a common understanding of the upcoming budget situation.

If you absolutely cannot attend a forum, a video of the presentation is online with a link to a feedback form so you can give input. Please go to http://www.salkeiz.k12.or.us/inside24j/April-22-2009/superintendents-budget-presentation-video.
