2008-09 State Test results

On August 31, the Oregon Department of Education released the State Test results for the 2008-09 school year.  Below are the highlights from the results, and links to all results are at the end of this page.

Reading

  • Elementary reading is up slightly from last year.
  • Middle school percentages have increased from the previous year.
  • Tenth grade reading stayed the same.
  • All percentages are somewhat below the state average.

Math

  • Elementary had gains of 5% at each grade, while the state averages remained the same.
  • 6th and 7th grades showed significant gains from the previous year and are close to the state averages.
  •  Parrish Middle School had significant gains in all grades in math.
  • 10th grade stayed the same while the state average increased slightly.
  • Roberts High School had a large increase in the percent met in math (as well as reading).
  • All percentages are somewhat below the state average.

Writing

  • 4th grade writing decreased slightly, resulting in a wider gap between the district and state.
  • Clear Lake, Morningside & Middle Grove elementary schools experienced large gains.
  • Middle schools had a drop in percent met compared to the previous year, although Crossler and Grant had significant increases.
  • The high school writing percent met dropped 12%.

Science

  • The elementary percentage increased slightly, narrowing the gap between district & state.
  • Middle school science had a greater increase than the state.
  • The district and the state stayed the same in 10th grade science, with a 10% gap between the two.
  • Early College High School had a significant increase in percent met in science.

Specific Groups

  • The Limited English Proficient and special education groups showed gains in almost every grade in reading and math.
  • Hispanic students made growth in every grade in reading and math.
  • African American students showed gains in almost every grade in reading and math.
